Tank Girl

July's character has been chosen by Mark1up and is Tank Girl.

Before we start waffling on about this iconic British comic character, we'd like to welcome our first honorary Stockfordian and illustrator of Tank Girl Rufus Dayglo. Bhuna is a Facebook friend of Rufus's and asked him if he's like to participate. Thanks for taking the time to rustle something up for the blog Rufus!

So anyway Tank Girl was created by Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin. Originally drawn by Jamie Hewlett, she has also been drawn by Philip Bond, Glyn Dillon, Ashley Wood, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Jim Mahfood, Rufus Dayglo, Andy Pritchett, and Mike McMahon.
The stories center on her misadventures with her boyfriend, Booga, a mutant kangaroo. The story's style was heavily influenced by punk visual art.

Namor - The Submariner

May's character has been chosen by Buddha Rex and is Namor - The Submariner.

Debuting in early 1939, the character was created by writer-artist Bill Everett for Funnies Inc. Sub-Mariner first appeared publicly in Marvel Comics #1 (Oct. 1939) – the first comic book from Timely Comics, the 1930s–1940s predecessor of the company Marvel Comics. During that period, known to historians and fans as the Golden Age of Comic Books, the Sub-Mariner was one of Timely's top three characters, along with Captain America and the original Human Torch.

The mutant son of a human sea captain and a princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis, Namor possesses the super-strength and aquatic abilities of the Homo mermanus race, as well as the mutant ability of flight, along with other superhuman powers. Through the years, he has been alternately portrayed as a good-natured but short-fused superhero, or a hostile invader seeking vengeance for perceived wrongs that misguided surface-dwellers committed against his kingdom.

June's character has been chosen by JLF and is a bit different than previous months.

Strontium Dog

April's character has been chosen by TinRobot and is Johnny Alpha - Strontium Dog

The series was created by writer John Wagner (under the pseudonym T. B. Grover) and artist Carlos Ezquerra for Starlord, a short-lived weekly science fiction comic, in 1978. When Starlord was cancelled the series transferred to 2000 AD. In 1980 Wagner was joined by co-writer Alan Grant, although scripts were normally credited to Grant alone.

The most famous and respected of the Strontium Dogs is Johnny Alpha, whose mutant eyes allow him to see through walls and read minds. He is responsible for such legendary achievements as destroying the Wolrog homeworld, leading the mutant uprising on Earth, and bringing Adolf Hitler to the future to face trial. His legendary career and his assistance to mutants in trouble - such as donating a large sum of money to the Milton Keynes ghetto in "Mutie's Luck" - has made him an icon to Earth's mutants. He is a highly skilled and dangerous fighter.

The next character is Namor - The Submariner and have been chosen by Buddha Rex
